This past weekend my granddad and I fished in another bass tournament on Lake Kissimmee, our second in three weeks. This wasn’t a club tournament, but just a annual family and friends tournament held on the Kissimmee Chain every year.

Having only caught one fish during practice the day before, the my grandpa and I went out on the morning of competition unsure if we could catch a five fish limit. We caught three keeper fish in the first few hours of competition before riding several miles down the Kissimmee River.

My grandpa caught a three and a half pounder on a lipless crankbait, which was crucial to our bag. We caught another small keeper in the river before heading back to the lake with about an hour left to fish. I caught one more solid bass to upgrade our smallest fish right before we had to head to weigh in our catch.

Neither of us thought we had enough weight to come out on top of the winner-take-all tournament. However, when we arrived back at the dock, we got word that most of the other competitors had not had a good day of fishing. Many teams didn’t even catch a fish and even more didn’t have their limit. Only us, along with one other team had five bass to weigh in.

My grandpa and I brought 11.90 pounds to the scales. Not a great bag, but it was enough for the win on that particular day. I was thrilled about our first tournament victory, despite not catching many fish.

Me displaying the only bass I caught during practice. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of our tournament day catch.
